Therapeutic/Swedish massage in camberwell

Therapeutic massage, also known as Swedish massage, is the one to book when your body feels frazzled, tense, tired or a bit wrung out by London life.

It is not necessarily as firm as deep tissue massage, and it is not just a spa-style relaxation treatment either. It sits somewhere in the middle: practical, calming, responsive and tailored to what you need. I tend to work intuitively working more firmly into the bits I feel require it.

Some clients come in with tight shoulders. Some come in exhausted. Some feel wired, stressed or run down. Some just know their body needs an hour of proper care.

You do not need to arrive with a clear diagnosis. “I feel tense everywhere” is enough.

What is therapeutic massage good for?

Benefits of therapeutic massage:

  • Reduce and relieve chronic pain and tension

  • Improve circulation

  • Lower cortisol, helping you de-stress and unwind

  • Assist with pain management — physical and psychological

  • Improve range of movement

  • Relieve muscle tension

  • Support higher quality sleep

  • Strengthen the immune system

  • Support postural improvement

  • Increase energy

This treatment is a good choice if you are feeling generally tense, tired or overloaded rather than needing very deep, specific work on one area.

It can be helpful for:

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • Back ache

  • General muscle tightness

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Poor sleep

  • Tired, heavy legs

  • Postural tension

  • Feeling disconnected from your body

  • Feeling wired but exhausted

  • General aches and stiffness

The treatment can be gentle, medium or firm. I use a mixture of flowing massage, deeper focused work and pressure where it is needed. In short, therapeutic massage is a simple and pleasant way to help keep the body and mind in better harmony.

Best masseuse! I went for a massage and it was incredible. Deborah is firm and thorough and we had a nice conversation too. Would definitely recommend and I’ll be back.

What happens in the treatment?

This is usually a full-body massage, because that allows the greatest amount of relaxation.

I use a variety of classic Swedish massage techniques, including long massage strokes, kneading and flowing movements, alongside more specific deeper work where your body needs it. I work into the soft tissues, muscles, tendons and fascia, adjusting the pressure as I go.

You do not need to know exactly what you need before you come in. You can just say, “I’m exhausted,” “I’m tense everywhere,” or “I need to switch off,” and we can work from there.

Is this different from deep tissue massage?

Yes. Deep tissue massage is more focused on pain, restriction and deeper muscular tension.

Therapeutic / Swedish massage is more about relaxation, circulation, nervous system calming and general tension relief. It can still include firmer work, but the overall pace is slower and more soothing.

If your body feels battered by life rather than injured or stuck, this is probably the better choice.
