Acupuncture & massage combination in camberwell

Of all the massage treatments I provide, this is the one both my clients and I love the most — and the one that gets the best results.

While I’m able to successfully alleviate many muscular conditions through massage alone, combining massage with acupuncture and moxibustion takes the treatment to the next level, mentally and physically. It is a tremendous stress buster and a very effective option when the body feels tight, painful, depleted or stuck.

This treatment can be especially helpful for back, shoulder and joint pain, as well as long-standing muscular tension anywhere in the body.

It is also safe to have this combination of treatment if you are pregnant.

Benefits of an acupuncture & massage combination treatment

This treatment can help to:

  • Reduce and relieve chronic pain and tension

  • Lower cortisol and help you de-stress

  • Improve range of movement

  • Support postural realignment

  • Assist with pain management — physical and psychological

  • Treat muscular pain and stiffness

  • Support higher quality sleep

  • Lower blood pressure

  • Warm the body

  • Strengthen the immune system

  • Increase energy

Some people book this because they are in pain. Others book it because they know they respond well to both acupuncture and touch.

How the treatment works

Massage works directly into the soft tissue, helping to release muscular tension, improve movement and relieve restriction.

Acupuncture works at a deeper level, using points on the body’s meridian system to help reset, rebalance and release tension. Together, the two treatments can create a deeper sense of relief than massage alone.

If acupuncture needles are included, they are usually left in for around 20 minutes to allow your body to reset and restore balance.

Sometimes I also use moxa — a traditional Chinese herb made from dried mugwort — to add soothing heat and further relieve symptoms. This can be applied to the end of acupuncture needles or used on its own as a warming moxa stick over the affected area.

More than dry needling

Because I’m fully trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I’m able to use a wider range of points and techniques than simple dry needling.

This makes the treatment more in-depth and effective, particularly where pain or tension is long-standing, recurring or linked with stress.

“My frozen back and I went to see Deborah with some trepidation, having never had acupuncture before. I am extremely glad I did so. She was extremely attentive, asking non-invasive questions to try and build a picture of why my back was in pain, and providing clear, calm and complete explanations of everything she was doing. Her massage was one of the best I've ever had, and the acupuncture was amazingly effective: I walked in almost bent double with muscle spasms, walked out upright, and by the next morning (as she had told me) I was completely upright and pain free.
Apart from the effective treatment, I really appreciate that she tried to understand not only how to alleviate the problem but also to uncover the reasons behind it: something that traditional Western medicine so rarely does (treat the symptom, not the cause). I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for massage or acupuncture.”

What can it help with?

The acupuncture and massage combination may be helpful for:

  • Back pain

  • Shoulder pain

  • Neck tension

  • Joint pain

  • Sciatica

  • Low back and hip pain

  • Stress-related muscular tension

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Sports injuries

  • Long-standing aches and pains

  • General stiffness and restriction

  • Feeling tense, wired or physically depleted

It is also a good option if massage helps you, but the tension keeps coming back.

Should I book massage alone or the combination?

If you are trying to decide between deep tissue massage and the acupuncture and massage combination, my recommendation is to try the combo.

Massage works beautifully on the soft tissue. Acupuncture allows us to work at a meridian level as well, creating a deeper and often more lasting sense of relief.
