Acupuncture for pcos & pco fertility in London

Can Acupuncture help you ovulate?

PCOS is one of the most common reasons women struggle to conceive, largely because it can disrupt ovulation. Many women with PCOS ovulate irregularly, ovulate infrequently or do not ovulate at all, which means the cycle becomes less predictable and pregnancy can take longer to achieve. Symptoms often begin in the late teens or early twenties, but the fertility impact often becomes most obvious when trying to conceive.

Acupuncture is widely used to support fertility in women with PCOS. In this setting, treatment is focused on one clear goal: helping the body ovulate more effectively, regulate the menstrual cycle, and create better conditions for conception. It can be used on its own or alongside letrozole as part of a comprehensive ovulation and conception plan.

Why PCOS affects fertility

The central fertility issue in PCOS is usually ovulatory dysfunction. If ovulation is delayed, inconsistent, or absent, conception is naturally more difficult. That is why effective fertility treatment for PCOS is usually centred on restoring or supporting ovulation, rather than simply monitoring the ovaries on scan.

PCOS is also rarely just a cycle problem. It often involves a wider hormonal and metabolic picture and that is why a more structured treatment approach is often needed. Where cycles are long, irregular, or absent, the aim is to improve the quality and consistency of the cycle so that the chances of pregnancy are improved.

How acupuncture is used in PCOS fertility care

Acupuncture is used in PCOS fertility treatment to support cycle regulation, ovulation and reproductive health in a more active and individualised way. For some women it is the main treatment route they want to explore first. For others, it is part of a combined approach alongside medical fertility care.

In clinic, the treatment focus is usually on supporting more regular cycles, encouraging ovulation, improving the overall pattern of hormonal disruption and giving the body better support while trying to conceive. This makes acupuncture highly relevant for women with PCOS who want a treatment approach that is practical, targeted and fertility-focused.

I started seeing Deborah in March after a PCOS diagnosis and struggling with fertility issues. As well as supporting me while I was TTC, Deborah’s sessions were a real life line when I did get pregnant, I felt so relaxed after each one. Deborah tailored the sessions depending on how I was feeling, she is very supportive and knowledgeable which was a great help to both my physical and mental health.”

Acupuncture on its own or alongside letrozole?

Acupuncture can be used on its own or alongside letrozole, depending on the clinical picture and the stage of treatment. Letrozole is recommended in the 2023 international PCOS guideline as the first-line pharmacological treatment for ovulation induction in infertile anovulatory women with PCOS where there are no other infertility factors.

That does not mean the page needs to be about letrozole. The stronger position is that acupuncture is a valuable fertility treatment in its own right and can also be integrated alongside letrozole when a combined plan is the right fit. In practice, many women want exactly that: a treatment strategy that is medically informed, but not limited to medication alone.

What treatment is aiming to achieve

For women with PCOS who are trying to conceive, treatment is usually aiming to achieve several things at once: a more regular cycle, clearer ovulatory patterns, better timing within the menstrual cycle and improved overall reproductive function.

This is why acupuncture can be such a useful part of fertility care. It allows treatment to be tailored to the individual rather than reduced to a generic protocol. Two women may both have PCOS, but their cycle pattern, symptom picture, and fertility history may be completely different. Good treatment reflects that.
