Acupuncture for unexplained infertility in London
Being told your infertility is “unexplained” can feel oddly unhelpful. Your tests may look normal, you may be ovulating, your cycle may seem regular, and yet pregnancy is still not happening. That uncertainty can be exhausting.
The good news is that unexplained infertility does not mean nothing can be done. It means that standard investigations have not identified one clear cause. This is exactly why many women choose acupuncture: it offers a more individual, whole-person approach at a time when they want practical support, a clearer plan and reassurance that there is something positive they can do.
At my clinic, acupuncture is used to support fertility in a focused, thoughtful and grounded way. The aim is to help create the best possible conditions for conception, while also helping you feel more supported, more informed and less stuck in the process.
What unexplained infertility really means
Unexplained infertility usually means that the routine checks have not shown an obvious reason for the delay in conceiving. Tubes may be open, ovulation may be happening and semen analysis may be within range, but conception still has not occurred.
That does not mean there is no reason. It may simply mean the issue is subtler than standard testing can easily detect. In practice, women in this situation often benefit from care that looks beyond a single result and considers cycle quality, timing, stress load, sleep, pelvic symptoms, digestion, pain history and overall health.
Understanding unexplained infertility from both perspectives
From a Western point of view, unexplained infertility may involve subtle factors that do not always show clearly on standard tests, such as egg quality, sperm function, implantation, inflammation or hormone signalling. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, it is not seen as one fixed diagnosis, but as a pattern of imbalance that may differ from one woman to another, such as Kidney deficiency, Liver qi stagnation, Blood stasis or Damp accumulation.
Both perspectives are useful. One helps explain what may be happening physiologically, while the other helps guide highly individual treatment. In simple terms, acupuncture aims to support better balance, circulation, regulation and resilience so the body is in a stronger position to conceive.
“Deborah is incredibly knowledgeable about acupuncture and all aspects of fertility. I was recommended to her after struggling with my cycle length for over a year. She is supportive, compassionate, kind and truly present in every session. You can really see how passionate she is about what she does.
Our sessions have made a real difference and I’m so grateful for her support.”

How acupuncture may help
Acupuncture aims to improve the conditions for conception rather than chase a single symptom.
Depending on your presentation, treatment may help to:
Support a healthier menstrual cycle
Even when cycles appear “normal”, there can still be signs that the body needs support, such as spotting, pain, clots, PMS, a short luteal phase or irregular ovulation signs. Acupuncture is tailored to your cycle and your symptoms, not just your diagnosis.
Calm the stress response
Trying to conceive can become physically and emotionally relentless. Acupuncture can help calm the nervous system, improve sleep and reduce that constant sense of tension and overthinking that so many women experience during fertility struggles.
Improve pelvic circulation and reduce stagnation
In clinical practice, acupuncture is often used to support pelvic blood flow and address patterns associated with pain, post-pill irregularity, endometriosis or signs that the uterine environment may need support.
Work alongside fertility treatment
Acupuncture can be used while trying naturally, during fertility investigations or alongside assisted conception. For many women, it becomes an important part of a more joined-up, integrated fertility plan.
Help you feel more supported and proactive
One of the biggest benefits of acupuncture is that it gives you a plan. Instead of feeling stuck in uncertainty, you are doing something purposeful and tailored to your body each week.
When to seek help
It is sensible to seek medical advice if you have been trying for 12 months without conceiving, or sooner if you are 36 or over, have very painful periods, irregular cycles, recurrent miscarriage, known endometriosis or any reason to think fertility may need earlier assessment.
From an acupuncture point of view, earlier support is often better. Many women come for treatment while investigations are ongoing, or simply because they want a more proactive and individualised approach from the outset.
An integrated approach to fertility care
A good fertility plan is not about choosing acupuncture or conventional care. Very often, it is about using the right support at the right time.
That may include acupuncture, GP or fertility clinic investigations, cycle tracking, nutritional support, sleep support and onward referral where needed. This kind of integrated approach can help you feel properly looked after, while making sure nothing important is missed.
Why choose acupuncture support?
When fertility feels uncertain, having skilled, focused support can make a real difference. Acupuncture offers a calm, practical and personalised approach that looks at the bigger picture - not just the label of unexplained infertility.
If you are feeling frustrated, disheartened or simply want to know you are doing everything you can, acupuncture is a positive step. It can help you feel more supported, more confident in your next steps and more hopeful about the road ahead.
