Acupuncture for Endometriosis &
adenomyosis in London
Endometriosis and adenomyosis can cause severe period pain, pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fatigue and fertility concerns. For some women and teenage girls, symptoms begin young and can be completely debilitating, affecting school, work, sleep, relationships and everyday life.
At our clinic we support women and younger patients with acupuncture and moxibustion as part of a personalised treatment plan. Our aim is to help reduce pain, regulate the cycle, improve overall wellbeing and support you whether you are managing symptoms or trying to conceive.
If your periods are impacting your life, it is worth taking seriously.
What are endometriosis and adenomyosis?
Endometriosis is where tissue similar to the lining of the womb is found outside the uterus. This can lead to inflammation, pain, painful periods, pain during sex, bowel or bladder symptoms and in some cases difficulty conceiving.
Adenomyosis is different. It happens when tissue from the lining of the womb grows into the muscle wall of the womb. It is often linked with heavy bleeding, painful periods, pelvic aching, pressure and bloating.
Some women have one, some have both and both can have a major effect on quality of life, energy, mood and reproductive health.
Western medicine and Chinese medicine
From a Western medicine perspective, endometriosis and adenomyosis are usually seen as hormone-sensitive inflammatory conditions. Treatment may include pain relief, hormonal treatment such as the pill, monitoring, scans, surgery, or fertility support depending on symptoms and goals.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, these conditions are often seen as patterns such as Blood Stasis, Qi stagnation and cold in the uterus. In simple terms, there is pain because flow is not smooth. There may also be clotting, congestion, cramping and a cycle that does not resolve cleanly each month.
This is why we look at the whole picture, not just the label of the diagnosis. We ask about pain pattern, clotting, cycle length, spotting, PMS, digestion, sleep, stress, energy and fertility goals. Treatment is then tailored to the individual rather than given as a one-size-fits-all approach.
Can acupuncture help?
Yes — acupuncture can be a very helpful supportive treatment, especially for pain relief and improving day-to-day quality of life.
In clinic, we often see it help with:
period pain
pelvic pain
clotting and stagnation-type symptoms
heavy or difficult periods
bloating and tension
stress and emotional strain
support while trying to conceive
For some patients, moxibustion can be especially helpful, particularly where pain feels deep, cramping, cold, or is eased by warmth. The addition of heat can be very comforting and can work well alongside acupuncture in the right case.
Acupuncture is not presented as a cure, but it can make a real difference and is often used alongside conventional medical care.
“I cannot recommend Deborah enough! I came to see her after suffering with suspected endometriosis pain, I had tried many things over the years and nothing helped. After consistently seeing Deborah I had my first pain free period in over 7 years and no longer have to take pain killers! It has also really eased my PMS symptoms. I am still amazed. Deborah really listens to my issues and adjusts treatment depending on what’s going on in my life. The space is warm and inviting and I find it so relaxing going to see her. Thank you Deborah!

Early support matters
We also believe this is important for younger girls. Severe period pain in teenagers should not be dismissed as normal or something they simply have to put up with.
If a young person is missing school, unable to function during periods, relying heavily on painkillers, or being pushed straight towards the pill without proper discussion, it makes sense to look more carefully at what is going on.
The sooner symptoms are taken seriously, the sooner proper support can begin. Early support can make a real difference not only physically, but emotionally too.
Fertility support
Endometriosis and adenomyosis can sometimes make conception more difficult, but they don’t make pregnancy impossible. Many women with these conditions do go on to conceive, either naturally or with medical support.
If you are trying to conceive, acupuncture can be a helpful part of your wider support plan. In clinic, treatment is often aimed at helping to improve overall cycle health, reduce pain and inflammation, support better regulation and reduce the stress and emotional strain that often come with fertility worries.
For some women, the focus is on helping the cycle become more settled and less painful. For others, it is about supporting them while they are trying naturally, preparing for assisted fertility treatment, or recovering emotionally from a long and frustrating journey.
We always approach fertility support realistically and sensitively. Acupuncture is not a guarantee, but it can be a valuable way to support your body and your wellbeing while you are trying to conceive.
